In the presence and patronage of H.E. Lieutenant General Dhahi Khalfan Tamim, Deputy Chairman of Police and General Security in Dubai, Chairman of HBMSU’s Board of Governors, HBMSU launched recently the “IT Support Chatbot” and the “Library Chatbot initiatives, as part of a major move to support Dubai’s transformation as the future’s smartest city in the world. Key officials and leading experts in the academe headed by Dr. Mansoor Al Awar, Chancellor of HBMSU, witnessed the launch of the two initiatives and commended the University's pioneering efforts to reshape the future of learning through the latest innovative technologies, to build a strongly competitive and highly productive economy in line with the UAE Vision 2021.
The “IT Support Chatbot” and “Library Chatbot” are major move that brings about an important development to traditional education as it facilitates learners’ scientific and academic journey using advanced technologies in line with the needs of the 21st century. Meanwhile, the “IT Support Chatbot” Initiative reflects HBMSU’s leading approach to advance education and learning through artificial intelligence (AI), in line with the country’s strategic directions to set global leadership in the field by 2031. The initiative provides a virtual audio assistant based on Watson automated learning system, an IBM product that responds efficiently to learner queries supported by interactive features that offer a unique experience for the academic community.
The Library Chatbot has placed HBMSU’s Library as the first university library in the UAE to adopt (AI) technologies to provide services and help accelerate transformation from traditional to smart library management. The University envisions to provide learners with an automated and a fully intelligent interactive library in line with the objectives of the Smart Dubai initiative. This innovative service is in addition to the traditional services provided by librarians, which include acquisition, indexing, distribution and chatbot, as part of its proactive efforts to meet the needs of learners.
Khalfan noted the importance of the ‘IT Support Chatbot’ and the ‘Library Chatbot’ initiatives in helping HBMSU achieve its goals of leading the educational system to new levels of excellence, innovation and progress. He pointed out that the university, as the world’s foremost educational institution in next 10 years, has taken another step forward to promote an interactive learning environment based on the latest technological innovations, especially (AI) which is a strategic priority for the UAE. The country is harnessing the latest technology in making a new model of development in line with the directions of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
"Driven by its vision to support national trends aimed at providing young people with the latest tools to forecast and create the future, HBMSU is redefining the present and future of higher education using advanced technology. We are confident that the two distinctive initiatives will enhance the experience of the learners, and we will be responsible for providing them with the ways to achieve personal development, academic excellence and take part in the national efforts to enhance the UAE's position on the global map," he added.

It supports the national directive towards making the UAE a new hub for developing systems, processes, and legislation pertaining to artificial intelligence, in line with the vision of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who said: "We want AI to be present in our daily life."

The “IT Support Chatbot” provides 24/7 IT support services to learners by simplifying and facilitating their academic life as well as the administrative and academic staff. The initiative is designed to solve various technical support problems with the support of a broad knowledge base. The initiative provides satisfactory answers in an interactive way to a variety of technical topics, including classroom assignments, virtual classes, password-related problems, email and web browsing.
The “Library Chatbot” is a big step from a traditional to a smart framework as it has interactive features based on AI applications that guide users to the right services around the clock. The new service allows learners to take advantage of the smart library, which enables them to choose from open sources and benefit from the ready indexing, smart lending and smart inquiries services, among others.
