In line with its mission to build future capabilities, Hamdan Bin Mohammed Smart University (HBMSU) launched today (Sunday, July 17, 2019) the Entrepreneurship and Technology Science Program in partnership with Juvenile Association. The event was attended by H.E. Lieutenant General Dhahi Khalfan Tamim, Deputy Chief of Police and Public Security in Dubai and Chairman of Hamdan Bin Mohammed Smart University’s (HBMSU) Board of Governors (BOG), and Chairman of Juvenile Association; and Dr. Mansoor Al Awar, Chancellor of HBMSU. Both officials said the program is specifically designed to enable emerging talents to compete on the global stage and lead the country’s comprehensive and knowledge-, innovation, and technology-driven development.

Around 300 young participants aged 7 to 16 joined the Entrepreneurship and Technology Science Program, which will take place from July 7 to 17, 2019. During the learning sessions, the participants were taught about critical 21st century skills using HBMSU’s integrated learning model that applies the concepts of awareness, implementation, and follow-up. The unique program was held to instill in them the spirit of entrepreneurship and help them develop successful business projects through a series of workshops. They underwent three phases of training, namely ‘Self-Learning,’ ‘Traditional Direct Training,’ and ‘Support and Virtual Direction.’

To teach technology skills, the program focuses on the basics of software science and electronics and design using 2D and 3D technologies. It also encourages self-creativity to meet and anticipate the challenges in the 21st century. The learning sessions take place in an interactive environment that is conducive to innovation, creativity, and excellence. The program uses smart facilities with interactive and innovative features to deliver a unique learning experience to all the participants.

H.E. Lieutenant General Tamim said that the program adds value to HBMSU’s efforts to equip the younger generation with advanced science and technology skills to drive innovation and help catapult the UAE among the ranks of advanced nations in the world. He added that the university provides quality programs, backed by modern education tools and devices, to produce the country’s innovators and creators of the future.  This has reinforced the university’s role in helping realize ‘The Eight Principles of Dubai,’ which aims to support promising talents who can contribute to building a future that ensures prosperity for all as per the directive of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

He added: “The qualitative program will pave the way for new achievements in enhancing the knowledge and innovative abilities of our young people, whose capacity to effectively use the modern tools can deliver growth and excellence in the future.”

Dr. Al Awar commented: “Guided by H.H. Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and the Supreme President of the University, HBMSU - through the Entrepreneurship and Technology Science Program, will equip our young people with innovative scientific and technology skills according to the requirements of the future as they are expected to eventually take the lead in the country’s steady progress. Investing in the education of the young is a cornerstone of an advanced and prosperous country. The quality program forms part of HBMSU’s commitment to provide an educational system that recognizes and develops the talents of every human being in line with the vision of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and as embodied  in the 50-Year Charter and ‘The Eight Principles of Dubai.’”

He added: “Using modern methodology, the program equips its learners with skills to excel in entrepreneurship, robotics, games, and 3D technology, among others,  in line with our vision of producing a generation of young entrepreneurs, knowledge makers, and key practitioners according to the National Strategy for Innovation. We want to make the UAE a young nation that builds its future by investing on its youth. The program is inspired by the National Strategy for Innovation, which aims to nurture innovation and creativity to make the UAE one of the world's most innovative countries. We will continue to integrate technology and other innovations into our daily learning activities to ensure comprehensive development at the national level. We look forward to launching similar programs as part of our continuous bid to become one of the pioneers in regional and global higher education.”  

The program is divided into three levels, namely ‘Minecraft and 3D designs’ for 7 to 10 years old; ‘Artificial Intelligence and Entrepreneurship’ for 11 to 13 years old; and ‘Advanced Programming - Python and Entrepreneurship’ for 14 to 17 years old. At the end of the program, the participants will have the opportunity to present their work, including the design of six different games; interactive stories and applications; the development of two different robotics projects; the design and printing of the Minecraft character; the design and printing of each participant’s icon; the design of electronic greeting cards; and the design of 3D models. HBMSU plans to hold an exhibition on September 12, 2019 to highlight the participants’ works. It will also give an award to those who produce the best projects.
