HH Sheikh Hamdan rename HBMeU to become Hamdan bin Mohammed Smart University

In line with ‘Dubai Smart Government’ initiative

The Crown Prince of Dubai, Chairman of Dubai Executive Council and President of Hamdan bin Mohammed e- University (HBMeU) Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashed Al Maktoum, has renamed the Hamdan Bin Mohammed e-University as the ‘Hamdan Bin Mohammed Smart University’ in a qualitative step that falls in line with the UAE’s move to be among the top five smart governments by 2021.

The decision is also part of the ‘Smart City Initiative’ of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE’s Vice President and Prime Minister and the ruler of Dubai, and his vision of a fully implemented 'Smart Government' that is capable to address the challenges of today and keep up with the latest technological developments.

The announcement of the new name came during the graduation ceremony held by the University today to award Master’s and Bachelor’s Degrees to the learners from the e-School of Business and Quality Management, School of e-Education, e-School of Health and Environmental Studies.

In his speech Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development, lauded the role of Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum in supporting the education and human development in the United Arab Emirates, he also praised his support for this pioneering university. Sheikh Nahyan indicated that the UAE government, under the leadership of UAE President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, places education in the top of its priorities.

In his speech on behalf of Lt General Dhahi Khalfan Tamim, Chairman of Dubai Police and Public Security and Chairman of HBMeU's Board of Governors, Chancellor of HBMeU Dr. Mansoor Al Awar congratulated the graduates and called upon the learners to continue with their academic and educational excellence, which will empower them to build a successful career and enable them to contribute in the social and cultural development in the UAE.

In recognition for his invaluable contribution in building a strong foundation to establish the first stone of e-education in the Arab world, Sheikh Nahyan has been awarded with the ‘Hamdan Bin Mohammed Smart University’ Medal. He was acknowledged for his untiring work towards the development of the educational sector in general and e-learning in particular; valuing his sincere efforts in spreading knowledge and education regionally as well as internationally and to uphold the image of the UAE.

During the ceremony, Sheikh Hamdan awarded graduation certificates to 270 learners in the presence of UAE Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development Sheikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Deputy Chairman of Dubai Police and Public Security and Chairman of HBMeU's Board of Governors Lt General Dhahi Khalfan Tamim, HBMeU Board of Governors and HBMeU Chancellor Dr. Mansoor Al Awar. In his speech, Sheikh Hamdan called upon the learners to continue with their academic and educational excellence, which will empower them to build a successful career and enable them to contribute towards the social and cultural development the UAE.

The graduation ceremony was attended by Minister of Social Affairs Maryam Mohammed Khalfan Alroomi, Director General of Dubai Ruler’s Court Mohammed Ibrahim Al Shebani, Dubai Attorney General Issam Issa Al Humaidan, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of Dubai’s Road and Transport Authority Mattar Mohammed Al Tayer, Chief of Dubai Police Major General Khamis Mattar Al Muzainah, Director General of the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing Helal Saeed Al Marri, numbers of senior officials and graduates’ families.

Khaldun Abdalhadi, a Master of Arts in Online Curriculum and Instruction College graduate, stressed on the high importance of the efforts of Hamdan Bin Mohammed Smart University in offering high quality learning according to the latest technology, which can keep up with accelerated developments that are witnessed in the knowledge era. He also affirmed his continued support to the wise leadership, including H.H. Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President of UAE and H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE’s Vice President and Prime Minister and the ruler of Dubai and the commitment to the vision drawn by the founding fathers to raise the UAE's name high globally.”

From her side, Khulood Saqer Khamis Ali Al Falasi, Bachelor of Business and Quality Management graduate, said: “We are honored to receive our certificate with the name Hamdan Bin Muhammad Smart University on it, who has always been the leader in adopting the best education practices and the latest technical improvements. There is no doubt that the educational standard of the University is very high--providing us with an opportunity to engage effectively in the labor market and contribute towards the growth and development of the UAE under the guidance of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and the President of HBMeU.”
